When it comes to interior design, there are a lot of possibilities. Most of us are already well aware of that, of course, but it doesn’t exactly make choosing our décor any easier. One of the most important and relevant parts of planning out a home is choosing appliances.
They’re not just for looks, obviously; they serve important functions all throughout the home. When most people hear the word “appliance,” our thoughts tend to drift towards the kitchen. It’s only natural, considering how many are a part of the “modern” kitchen, and that’s what we’ll be covering today.
Now, even if you don’t particularly enjoy hyper-modern interior design, there are still plenty of reasons to consider utilizing these types of appliances. After all, you can pull off pretty much any aesthetic and still have high-quality and functional technology in a space.
With all of that said, there’s a lot to consider about kitchen/home appliances, such as what style we want as well as the features we want. Today, we’ll be covering some of the possibilities, so make sure to stick around so you can learn more about it!
Kitchen Appliances
First, let’s take a look at kitchen appliances. Chances are, you’re already familiar with some of these, but it can be helpful to get a refresher!
Refrigerators: These are perhaps the “quintessential” part of most kitchens, and one of the first things we tend to think about when we’re going shopping for appliances. They’re featured on most cooking blogs as well, such as this one, and it’s for good reason. The fridge is where we store food that needs to be at a controlled temperature, and most of it comes with an attached freezer nowadays, which is also quite handy.
Ovens: Now, it’s difficult to actually cook without an oven, and that’s why we’re highlighting it next. Most of the time, they’re used for baking, roasting, and broiling food. Ovens come in different types, including gas, electric, and convection ovens, though the former are usually the default in residential spaces.
Something else to note is that they typically have adjustable temperature controls and different cooking modes for precise cooking. Some ovens also have built-in features like self-cleaning functions, timers, and programmable settings. Additionally, most of them have a stovetop, so you’ll want to consider that as well when you’re selecting one.
Dishwasher: While there are plenty of different options for kitchen appliances, the final one that we’re covering here today are dishwashers. These certainly aren’t a necessity, but you’ll be hard-pressed to find a modern home without one in the United States. They offer a convenient option for washing dishes, preferable to having to clean them by hand.
Home Appliances
Naturally, the kitchen isn’t the only place in the home that we can find appliances in. There are some examples of that here: https://www.knepublishing.com/index.php/Kne-Social/article/view/3485, but we’ll be covering several of them as well!
Washing Machine: Most of us can probably agree that doing laundry by hand is one of the worst chores to have to do. That’s why a lot of folks have washing machines, and there have been plenty of advancements to make these machines more and more advanced throughout the years. For instance, modern washing machines often have different settings for different types of fabric and levels of cleanliness.
Dryer: While these aren’t quite as popular as the former entry, it’s rare to find homes without both of them in the laundry room. Dryers come in a variety of sizes and capacities and tend to include settings for heat as well as types of clothing to ensure that there’s less risk of damage.
Vacuum Cleaner: For folks with carpets, you’re probably intimately familiar with vacuum cleaners already. With that said, they’re quite handy for hardwood floors as well, so long as you get one that has the right settings. It takes a bit of research to find the perfect fit, but it’s not hard to see why they’re so important, especially in households with pets.
Recent Trends
When it comes to selecting appliances for our homes, there are a lot of factors to take into consideration. This is hardly a secret, of course. Functionality should probably take priority, but there’s certainly something to be said for aesthetics in these circumstances as well.
What’s popular in 2024, though? As many experts guessed, one of the most popular trends is colorful appliances. We’ve seen a lot of pink ovens, microwaves, and coffee makers, as just a few examples. These might not necessarily be “timeless,” but for anyone who wants to get creative with their interior design, it could be something to think about!
Overall, the most important thing is that you should choose pieces that suit your lifestyle while also fitting in with your interior decorating!
