Arriving in Cusco
Cusco (Quechua: Qosqo or usko) is one of the world’s premier archeological capitals, with an illustrious past including Inca Empire expansion and subsequent Spanish conquistador arrival. Their legacy remains evident today in this high-altitude city’s narrow streets where indigenous temples sit next to baroque cathedrals.
Cusco’s primary transportation hub is the Plaza de Armas, served by fleets of privately owned inner-city buses known as Combis that run regularly on set routes throughout the day. While these buses may seem convenient and cost-effective, pickpocketing has become an increasing problem on these services. Taxis are available both at the airport terminals as well as within Cusco itself; reservations may be made beforehand or you can negotiate prices upon arriving. Alternatively, AndenJuwels can arrange private transfers directly for your convenience.
