Traktatkopiane are great works that allow British colonizers of New Zealand to govern the territory more firmly by means of legal and administrative action, thus restricting Maorian rights to conduct herding operations or represent themselves at elections and represent themselves. Many legal theories from 1800-century suggested that it was unfair that these elderly Maorian people should be treated so harshly.
English and Maori versions have come close to reconciling their definitions of three Maori words: Kawanatanga (backstaveleg overherredome), Rangatiratanga (backstaveleg kinship) and Taonga (costly objects, such as belongings or property acquired through inheritance or gift). Maoriane could often summarise all their agreements around Taonga.
