Are you looking for the best gaming laptop at a reasonable price? Then it would be best if you consider HP Pavilion Gaming 15 series. It is well-known for its reasonable price. These 15.6-inch laptops are designed for gamers. The HP Pavilion 15 Gaming Laptop attempts to challenge the general public’s notion that gaming laptops are not good value for money.
The midrange Nvidia GPU and Intel Core i7 CPU in this laptop provide remarkable graphics performance for its price of $899 ($999 as configured). The best upgrading gaming laptop, such as an HP Pavilion 15, can greatly improve your gaming experience. In this article, I have shared my experience with this laptop and its pros and cons.
Features of HP Pavilion Gaming Laptop
Design
The HP Pavilion 15 looks like a counterfeit Razer Blade bought in a dark alley. The HP logo is a dark greyish chrome color, and the lid is composed of matte plastic with a smooth chalky texture. I was disappointed to find that the black surface of the lid bent downward with the smallest suggestion of pressure when I put my palm on it to feel the texture.
The Hp Pavilion gaming laptop 15’s palm rest has a mutagen-green and black honeycomb design that fades into a solid black keyboard deck. The green backlighting of the keyboard keys draws attention to the black, open deck, which screams “Razer ripoff.” Above the playing surface, between the start button and the green Bang & Olufsen logo, is a sizable speaker grill.
Display
Even though I expect colors to seem a bit subdued on a matte screen, the 15.6-inch, 1920 x 1080 display on the Pavilion 15 looked like it had gone through the wash too many times. The laptop’s inability to render more than 62% of the sRGB gamut was expected. It was on par with the Y700 (61%) but much lower than the average (86%), the Inspiron 15 7000 (70%), and the Alienware 15. (103.4 percent).
Keyboard and Touchpad
The green illuminated keys on the island-style keyboard were reasonable. Despite HP cramming in a full number pad on the Pavilion 15’s deck, there was plenty of space between them. In the 10FastFingers Typing Test, I easily breezed through the requisite 60 words per minute. Despite their softness, the keys were responsive, with a normal 1.3 mm of key travel and 60 g of actuation force (the force needed to depress a key).
The big Synaptics clickpad measured approximately 4.3 by 2.5 inches and was precise and quick to respond. The use of two-finger scrolling and three-finger flicking movements was a breeze. At times, touching the pad’s edges seemed like pushing on a sponge, which was annoying.
Heat
I got to check out HP’s CoolSense technology as I hacked and sliced my way across the countryside in Witcher 3. Whether the laptop is resting on a level surface or you’re moving about with it on your lap, CoolSense will automatically change the fan speed to keep your legs from becoming too hot.
After 15 minutes of travel, the touchpad reached 81 degrees Fahrenheit, while the area between the G and H keys reached 91 degrees. The laptop’s undercarriage at the back vent reached 93 degrees. All of them were safe for human habitation, below 95 degrees.
Webcam
The designed webcam produced considerably fuzzy images when I used it. It was difficult to locate a recognizable feature within the visual chaos. The warm brown color of my skin seemed somewhat grey and washed out, and the horizontal striations in my grey metallic shirt resembled static from an old television. Lenovo gaming laptops, in particular, include high-quality webcams that you should check out.
Ports
You can connect an external display and a few gaming devices to the Pavilion 15, but that’s about it. A USB 3.0 connector, an HDMI port, a headphone jack, and a Kensington lock slot are all located on the right side of the device. There’s an Ethernet port, an electrical outlet, a USB 3.0 port, and a USB 2.0 port on the left side.
Performance
The HP Pavilion gaming laptop 15 is not just a decent work computer but also a fairly strong gaming laptop. Streaming a “House of Cards” episode in Google Chrome with seven tabs open and a full antivirus check going was no problem for the laptop’s 2.6 GHz quad-core Intel Core i7-6700HQ CPU and 8GB of RAM.
The Geekbench 3 test, a synthetic benchmark that assesses system performance, showed that the system scored 12,242, much higher than the average of 8,712. The Y700, which shares its processor with the Pavilion, achieved a better score of 13,067. The Intel Core i5-6300HQ in the Inspiron 15 achieved 8,800, whereas the Intel Core i5-4210 in the Alienware 15 only managed 6,321.
Pros
- Excellent general and visual performance.
- Maintains its temperature while playing games
- Excellent style plus
Cons
- Dim screen
- Low data transmission rates
- Battery drains quickly

FAQs
Is an HP Pavilion laptop good for gaming?
The HP Pavilion Gaming Laptop will do well if you need a laptop for gaming. Modern AAA games worked rather well on its H-series AMD Ryzen CPUs and dedicated NVIDIA GPUs, but you’ll want to spring for the beefier RTX 3050 or 3050Ti GPUs if you wish to enjoy maximum graphics settings.
What is special about HP Pavilion?
Fast, light and inexpensive laptops from HP’s Pavilion brand are popular.
Is HP Pavilion or envy better?
Two convertible laptops from HP with 360-degree hinges are the HP ENVY x360 13 (2020) and the HP Pavilion x360 14 (2021). However, ENVY is the superior model. The brightness and color range of ENVY’s display is also much superior, and the keyboard and touchpad are more satisfying.
Conclusion
The action in a game is most important for engaging you in an ideal world, and the HP Pavilion Gaming provides fluid animations without sacrificing quality. The HP Pavilion Gaming Laptop can run all your favorite games without hiccups, including Grand Theft Auto V and PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds. Although this laptop has some flaws, it is the best gaming laptop to choose from.
