Outbreak of Bacterial Infections Linked to Eye Drops

AlexBy AlexMarch 1, 20233 Mins Read

A recent outbreak of carbapenem-resistant Pseudomonas aeruginosa (CRPA) has prompted health officials to issue a warning to the public. CRPA is a type of bacteria that is resistant to certain antibiotics and can cause serious infections in humans. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has issued a health alert to doctors across the country following the identification of CRPA in opened bottles of eye drops.

According to the CDC, the majority of patients who reported using the contaminated eye drops used the preservative-free, multi-dose bottles of EzriCare Artificial Tears. Preservatives are typically added to eye drops to prevent bacterial growth, but the lack of preservatives in EzriCare may increase the risk of bacterial overgrowth after the bottle has been opened, potentially leading to infections.

In response to the potential bacterial contamination, the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) announced a voluntary recall of both EzriCare and Delsam artificial tears on February 2. The affected products have specific product codes and were sold in a bottle with a safety seal and carton box. The recall has since been expanded to include Delsam’s Artificial Eye Ointment.

If you or a loved one has used Delsam or EzriCare eye drops and experienced an eye infection or vision loss, it is important to seek medical attention immediately. After receiving medical treatment, it may be advisable to consult with a qualified attorney who can provide guidance on legal options.

Individuals who have suffered injuries or illnesses after using the recalled eye drops may be eligible to file a Delsam or EzriCare eye drops lawsuit. Compensation may be available to cover the costs of medical treatment, lost wages, and pain and suffering resulting from the injuries.

To file a successful lawsuit, it will be necessary to establish that the use of the contaminated eye drops directly caused the injuries or illnesses suffered. An experienced EzriCare eye drops attorney can help clients build a strong case by gathering evidence and consulting with medical experts to prove causation.

It is important to note that legal action must be taken within a specific time frame known as the statute of limitations. Failure to file a lawsuit within this time frame can result in the loss of legal rights and the ability to seek compensation.

In conclusion, the recent outbreak of CRPA linked to EzriCare and Delsam artificial tears is a cause for concern. If you have been affected by the contaminated eye drops, seek medical attention immediately and then consult with a qualified attorney to learn about your legal options. Taking legal action may provide an opportunity to hold the manufacturers accountable for their negligence and obtain compensation for your injuries.
